Meet Eric B
"I meet life's challenges head on, recognizing 'what is' without accepting what others may see as limitation. Everything is possible. This is also how I approach the challenge of designing. I strive toward unlocking the full potential of a space."
- Eric B
BIO
French Born Eric Brun-Sanglard moved to the United States at the age of eighteen where he attended Emerson College in Boston. He graduated Cum Laude in 2 ½ years with a degree in Mass Communications.
When he lost his sight over fourteen years ago, in addition to learning to cope with the personal adjustments of his situation, he also faced the difficult task of redirecting the course of his professional life. Until the onset of his blindness, Eric jetted between Paris, New York , and Los Angeles working as a creative director in the highly competitive world of perfume advertising for clients like Chanel, Hermes, Lancome, and Christian Dior. What could have been viewed as an ill-timed and overwhelming experience for Eric B, as he has come to be known, instead became the catalyst, which ultimately laid the foundation for a new professional venture, one capturing his interests in homes, design, and travel. At the onset of his blindness, Eric B was remodeling his home in the Hollywood Hills. In blindness, Eric learned to truly see and discovered he had an innate capability and design sense, which he turned into a thriving business.
In 1996 Eric partnered with a contractor where the team remodeled their own homes. They eventually took on an extensive client base. Later Eric parted from partnership and started his own company with a fitting name of "The Blind Designer, Inc" in June 2005.
Having been interviewed in many magazines, newspapers, radio and television shows, even stared as the first guest designer on ABCs Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Eric went on to make his own show in Spring of 2006, called Designing Blind on the A&E network, where he would then demonstrate his techniques and talent. The successful series has been shown internationally from Europe to South Africa.
Often viewed as a role model, Eric decided to write his memoire, which will be released first in September 2009 in his native country of France, and in early 2010 in the US.
Eric continues to work passionately with all types of clients and design challenges, leaving his creative touch on projects of all sizes from remodels to expansions and new construction design. He has become known for creating dreamlike and serene environments that are inviting and most comfortable to live in, where all of one's senses are in total harmony.
